Washington School was built in 1922 on the west side of Pana, Illinois.
This evening after school I drove to photograph both Washington School and Lincoln School.
Lincoln is located on the east side of Pana, and even though they look very similar,
they both seem to have their own personalities.

Today was a "Volunteer Day" at Tuscola Schools.
Since most schools were dismissed in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day,
I knew I wouldn't be called to "sub".
It was a perfect day to work with Shannon.

On my way through Arcola, I stopped to take pictures of Arcola High School.
School was not in session, so the campus was quiet today.
It was cold.

Very, very cold,
and the wind was blowing hard causing sub-zero wind factors.

In spite of the fact that I was shaking from head to toe,

and it felt like I had lost all feeling in my fingers,
I couldn't stop taking pictures of this building.
I fell in love with it,
and have promised myself I will return in the spring...

Findlay Grade School is another school that was moved after consolidation.
The building is still in use as an antique business, but today it was closed.
For now, the equipment still stands in the playground,
but on this sunny day, the sounds of children laughing and playing are gone.

As you leave the small town of Strasburg, Illinois, (Population: 500),
the sign reads, "Auf Wiedersehen!"
Between Strasburg and the town of Stewardson stands Stewardson-Strasburg Consolidated schools that were opened in 1950.

Before that, each little town had its own school, and the old Strasburg School building is what remains of this little town's personal contribution to the education of its young citizens.

This is the fire-escape on the side of the abandoned building,

and I can imagine boys and girls sitting on its steps sharing secrets and quiet times together.

More pictures can be seen on the "Old School Page".
