Buddy the Guinea Pig was the center of lots of care and affection today.
Feeding and exercise were included in class responsibilities, and I can assure you that after the last bell rang, and the room was empty and quiet, I heard his little wimpers when his friends left for the weekend. Every classroom has its story... ~Nancy ~ 109/365 It's raining. Basements and streets are flooding. I received my first ever emergency threat alert message on my phone. "Flash Flood Warning this area til 8:30 PM CDT. Avoid flood areas. Check local media. NWS." Yup. I would say that is accurate. This weather is for the birds. And the ducks. And the fish. And the fisherman. Spring in Illinois...

I can't help but wonder what is significant about these dates, and why they were engraved on these stone structures. Have they been there this long? Was this the route of a train? This is the foundation of a bridge that crosses the origin of the Little Wabash River. Located just outside of Mattoon, I pass it on my way home. This evening I had just driven through a hard downpour where the temperature at the northern edge of Mattoon was 81 degrees and 71 degrees by the time I got to the other side of Mattoon and the other side of the storm. The reward was not only the time outside, but finding the first wildflowers blooming along the trail. Last week one of the First Grade students asked me what was my favorite season. "It depends on when you are asking me." "What do you mean?" "Well, after winter, my favorite season is spring and after summer, my favorite season is fall." Today, spring is definitely my favorite season... ~Nancy ~ 105/365 Ashton did a great job with her first game on her new team, "The Power". It was a double-header with Ashton as starting pitcher. She also hit hard at bat with a 2-run hit. Go, Ri! ~Nancy ~ 104/365
Shannon and I spent the day with some great teachers in Fairfield, Illinois.
Not only are they fun, but they are always excited to learn new ways to teach their students. You have to love that! After the drive home, I even had time for a walk on the trail and a ride through the country. Things are finally greening up and blooming, and in the setting sun, the silhouette of the limbs and branches of the old trees look softer with the emerging buds... ~Nancy ~ 103/365 The last students have left the classroom.
The crossing guard escorts them as they cross Main Street and make their way home. These old stairs have lost count of the feet that have climbed and descended them. "Walk! Don't run!" And yet they are always excited to get where they are going. Inside out of the cold, or outside for recess. These are the days that they will remember with a smile... ~Nancy ~ 102/365
