Everything seemed safe and secure.
Even this little family that calls our pond home was going about its usual routine.

We stopped by the cabin this morning to check on it after the storms that passed through late last night.

The BMI.
I love this little airport. Sometimes I am the only one going through security. And when I arrive back, I know I can walk out the front door of the terminal and find my car safely parked exactly where I left it. And did I mention, "No parking fees"? No parking fees! And no toll fees on the drive to the BMI. Whenever I walk through this airport, I find this weary traveler. I can understand why he is content to just "sit-a-spell" here. ~Nancy ~ 140/365 It was a beautiful, gorgeous day with a forever blue sky. Diana and I headed south of the City to find a beach. The 17 Mile Drive would take us through Pacific Grove where we lived as little girls. The rest was one breath-taking view after another. My pictures can't begin to duplicate the moments,
but the memories will live on in colors that are too vivid to describe. ~Nancy ~ 139/365 Today was the Bay Area Maker Faire.
What is a "Maker Faire" you ask? "Maker Faire is the Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth, a family-friendly festival of invention, creativity and resourcefulness, and a celebration of the Maker movement." It has its roots in the Bay Area and began there in 2006 where it is "part science fair, part county fair, and part something entirely new, Maker Faire is an all-ages gathering of tech enthusiasts, crafters, educators, tinkerers, hobbyists, engineers, science clubs, authors, artists, students, and commercial exhibitors. All of these “makers” come to Maker Faire to show what they have made and to share what they have learned." I was my sister's guest while she was attending with Intel, one of the sponsors of the Bay Area Maker Faire. We arrived early and our senses were overwhelmed for as long as we were there. With so many amazing things to see and do, children everywhere were encouraged to color "outside of the lines". Today was filled with so many "Bucket List" items. I walked across the Golden Gate Bridge for the first time. I rode a cable car for the first time since we moved from The City so many years ago. We ate at the Cliff House and thought of our great uncle who helped build the second Cliff House in 1895. The most memorable one was standing in the cemetery at the Presidio of San Francisco to visit my grandfather's grave. The surrounding groves of eucalyptus trees shaded the markers as you heard the sounds of seagulls in the distance. We'll never forget you, PapaDad... Nancy ~ 137/365 The view from my grandfather's grave-site.
After leaving Shelbyville, early this morning, I was finally here. The view from the edge of the San Francisco Bay was what welcomed me as we pulled into the hotel parking lot. ~Nancy ~ 136/365 "The glory that was Rome is of another day This little Redbud tree has lost its blooms
and in the shadows of the maples and elms and hickories and oaks, it reaches out to the sun to find its "green". ~Nancy ~ 135/365 I heard the sirens until at least 11:00 last night.
On Facebook, I read the updates and saw a few videos and pictures, and I knew what was burning. In a small town, it's never far from your home, and things like this touch family and friends. The news this morning said that ten fire departments responded. When I opened the back door last night before climbing the stairs to bed, I could smell the smoke. I resisted leaving the house and walking to watch. I didn't want to get in the way. On our morning walk, we met with friends on their walks, and we stopped to watch. WCIA from Champaign was there to cover the damage, and when this reporter stopped to talk with us, we could see the genuine concern and sadness in her eyes as she relayed her sympathy for the people who had lost a part of their lives. But as we stood there, the one sentiment expressed with a common thread was that there were no injuries or lives lost. Nobody can take away the memories, and Shelbyville citizens will come back and rebuild with the strength to make things even better... ~Nancy ~ 134/365 Today I learned something new,
and when that happens, I feel like it is a good day. We haven't had too many sunny days, so today, when the sun was out all day in all of its glory, I learned to set my camera using the "Sunny 16 Rule". Evidently, it's been around for a long time, but it was new to me! If it's new to you, too, and you would like to learn about it, just read about the rule HERE. It made taking this picture very easy, and it might be some numbers I can actually remember! I hope your day was filled with sun and some new knowledge, as well! ~Nancy ~ 133/365 The wind was blowing hard, and it was no easy task to capture these little wildflowers.
Thumbing through several wildflower field guides, I learned that they are known as "Shooting Stars". (Dodecatheon meadia / Primrose Family) I finally found a picture of them after explaining to "Google" that they were white prairie wildflowers that seemed to be turned inside out... ~Nancy ~ 132/365 |
