"People don't notice whether it's winter or summer when they're happy." Coats on the ground and boys in the air.
Everyone in the park was smiling today... ~Nancy ~ 38/365 "The color of springtime is in the flowers; the color of winter is in the imagination." The long way home through the country...
~Nancy ~ 37/365 "Walking with a friend in the dark is better than walking alone in the light." Shannnon, Ashton, and Sydney joined me to walk the annual luminary walk on the Dacey Trail. Cups ot chocolate and hot apple cider warmed cold fingers, while a huge bonfire warmed cold toes. Linked arm-in-arm walking 2.5 miles warmed my heart... ~Nancy ~ 24/365
"The first farmer was the first man, and all historic nobility rests on possession and use of land." I subbed in the library today which keeps me very busy, and very happy.
I was surprised when I left to find the sun had left us sometime during the day. I took a long drive home through the country and found this barn hidden behind a growth of trees. This one I have missed, and was happy to find it while it was still standing. ~Nancy ~ 20/365 The Clarksburg Schoolhouse is a historic school building located on Clarksburg Road in Clarksburg, Illinois. The school opened circa 1892 and was originally known as Bethel School; it changed its name following the growth of Clarksburg in the ensuing years. The school served as Clarksburg's public primary school for children in the first through eighth grades; students from the school continued their education at Shelbyville's high school. After the school merged into Shelbyville's district in the 1960s, the building became a community center for Clarksburg Township; it served in this capacity until 1998. The building is the only surviving community schoolhouse in the area. The schoolhouse was added to the National Register of Historic Places on January 25, 2001 From: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clarksburg_Schoolhouse I have passed this building many times not knowing what was inside.
After seeing a post on Facebook, I drove out through the country to visit it. The sun was low on the horizon as a beautiful January day was ending. I put my camera lens right against the windows to capture the shots of the inside desks. From both sides of the building, I could only imagine what the students dreamed of sitting with friends looking through the windows at the countryside surrounding them. And the dreams of their teacher... There seems to be interest in restoring and preserving this building, and I hope those who still remember attending this school can find the motivation and purpose to follow through. ~Nancy ~ 19/365 “Live in each season as it passes; ~Nancy ~ 19/365
“There are two spiritual dangers in not owning a farm. Well, maybe not shorter,
but a few more "friendly faces"... ~Nancy ~ 16/365 On the way to a workshop in Paris, Illinois... I sit beside the fire and think Some "Cabin Time" with the fire and the sounds of birds outside at the feeders.
A nice way to spend part of the afternoon... ~Nancy ~ 14/365
