“The first day of spring is one thing and the first spring day is another. The difference between them is sometimes as great as a month.”
  ~~Henry Van Dyke
Just when everything was set in brown,
spring lights up our world...

Winter's open house...
Still waiting for the sun.

“Life is always a rich and steady time when you are waiting for something to happen or to hatch.”
  ~~E.B. White, Charlotte's Web
The countryside is covered in 4 inches of fresh snow. It feels like spring is taking its sweet time.
Nevertheless, this nest is the season's promise that the cycle will continue...

“A single sunbeam is enough to drive away many shadows.”
  ~~Francis of Assisi
The day started out with clouds and I dragged myself out the door for a walk.
It wasn't long before the sun broke free and brought a little warmth to fight the cold wind.
It feels like January is waning...

"No winter lasts forever; no spring skips its turn."

The first snow.
No "Snow Day".
No "Late Start".
Still on schedule for the last day of school.
116 days left of this school year.
Loving every minute...

“If you spend your whole life waiting for the storm, you'll never enjoy the sunshine.”
  ~~Morris L. West
There was no sun today as we walked this piece of land.
A remnant left over from decades ago brings to mind the tough life the pioneer farmers endured
and the steps they took to stay safe...

A New Day

“With the new day comes new strength and new thoughts.”
  ~~Eleanor Roosevelt
The Smith Family is getting a new sun room.
The view will be extraordinary with both the sunrise and the sunset.
This morning's temperatures were below freezing,
but the sun rose and shone bright in a cloudless sky.
Welcome, new day!

Unlocked

Continuous effort - not strength or intelligence - is the key to unlocking our potential."
  ~~Winston Churchill
We wrestled this old trunk down from the attic the day before Halloween.
It belonged to Tom's grandfather, and Tom told me it was time to let it go.
We got it as far as the front porch where it has been sitting next to the front door.
When the "trick-or-treaters" knocked on the door, they would slowly and carefully touch it,
expecting something to jump out at them.
With the holidays, I forgot about it and it became part of the scenery.
Now the new year is here.
One last picture on a rainy day before we find a home for it...

The Tree

"Time spent amongst trees is never wasted"
  ~~Katrina Mayer
Anyone who knows me, knows how much I love trees.
This beautiful majesty has stood through many storms and trials and is a living testimony of endurance.
I stopped to take this picture as the owner of the land watched me.
He told me it used to have two old tires hanging from its limbs years ago, and
his now grown children used them to swing from all summer long.
He explained that a storm took the top limbs, but it still blooms every spring and is full of leaves throughout the summer.

I am in awe...

"Each moment is a place you've never been."
  ~~Mark Strand
I left the house before the sun was up.
I needed to meet Shannon for a road trip to a workshop this morning.
I saw the pink in my rear view window, and when I looked over my shoulder,
I knew I had to take the time to pull over.
The things we miss when we sleep past dawn...
