"If you look over the years, the styles have changed - the clothes, the hair, the production, the approach to the songs. The icing to the cake has changed flavors. But if you really look at the cake itself, it's really the same."
~~John Oates
It's been 45 years since I made this cake the first time. I have pictures of Chad blowing out the candles all the way from his first birthday while he was sitting in a high chair surrounded by his brother and their little friends. The other kids blew out the candles for him.
Today is Chad's 45th birthday, and I needed to make it for him again. There have been some birthdays that I missed. He was away to college or busy with fatherhood. Or work. Or life. But until he was 18, he got this every year.
This year he asked me what started it and I remembered I had seen the recipe in the February 1972 issue of Parent's Magazine for February birthdays and I still had the original recipe in my recipe box. (I haven't converted them to digital, yet.)
So with this post, Happy Birthday, Chad!
