"But give thanks, at least, that you still have Frost's poems;
and when you feel the need of solitude,
retreat to the companionship of moon, water, hills and trees.
Retreat, he reminds us, should not be confused with escape.
And take these poems along for good luck!”
  ~~Robert Graves
Took an early evening drive through the hills of Shelby County.
This old barn was filled to the brim with hay.
I loved this view of it.
If you live in Illinois, you would understand.
We're kind of flat here...

"I've often said there's nothing  better for the inside of a man than the outside of a horse."
~~Ronald  Reagan
A spotted winter coat keeps this Appaloosa warm on another very, very cold day.
I could see her breath each time she raised her head to look at me.

"There is nothing in which the birds differ more from man than the way  in which they can build and yet leave a landscape as it was before."
~~Robert Lynd
Ron Ghere and I walked through the Arboretum today to see how "Mother Nature" treated her.
Trees were budding and the color green was showing through the snow.
In spite of its delicate appearance,
this little hummingbird nest has survived a hard winter.
Appearances truly can be deceiving...

That's what the parking attendant said to us as we pulled in and paid for our parking ticket.
"Congratulations! You must have a boy 'in the medals'."
Yes and no.
We have more than one.
Congratulations to all six of our "State Qualifiers".
Shelbyville finished in the top five of the Class 1A teams!
It was a great season and we are looking forward to Tuesday when we compete again as a "team".

For three days we sat under these lights watching, cheering, and encouraging the Shelbyville Rams!

"Wrestling is a staple in life - not just a sport,
but a way of looking at everything in a different way,
a push through each drop of sweat, every black eye,
any puddle of blood and all of the hard breathing at the end of practice,
all effectively bandaged by the hand-raise at the end of the tunnel."

We're proud of you, Garrett!

Winter sports are winding down.
The snow and ice have postponed so many events,
and travel has been a challenge.
When we finally get to the meets and matches and games,
it is wonderful watching our grandchildren grow and learn.
Tonight it was a trip to watch Ashton play volleyball.
Go East Prairie Hornets!

"There  is no blue without yellow and without orange."
~~Vincent  Van Gogh
This barn is a perfect symbol for a much needed sunny day.
It feels like the light can finally be seen at the end of the tunnel,
and the bright colors of spring will be here soon.

“Invention, my dear friends,
is 93% perspiration,
6% electricity,
4% evaporation,
and 2% butterscotch ripple.”
~~Willy Wonka, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl
If you are a 5th grade teacher,
you'll know who Joseph Glidden was.
(And also if you paid attention to your fifth grade teacher.)
