"There's something to be said in  favor of working in isolation in the real world."
  ~~A. R. Ammons
I attended a session presented by Leslie Fisher.
She stopped in the middle of a sentence and commented on the "Lone Guy in the Balcony".
Don't be mistaken, though.
The lower floor was packed, and we are a fan...

"Education is not the learning of facts,
but the training of the mind to think."
  ~~Albert Einstein
Shannon and I ventured down to the conference Expo Hall to visit friends and to connect with companies that are part of our network. Reading the wishes and thoughts of conference attendees was a "must" on our agenda...

"There is no end to education.
It  is not that you read a book, pass an examination, and finish with education.
The  whole of life, from the moment you are born to the moment you die, is a process  of learning."
  ~~Jiddu Krishnamurti
Shannon and I have arrived in Atlanta for the ISTE-2014 (International Society for Technology in Education) Conference and to spend four days attending sessions and learning as much as we can about the latest trends. The plan is to "divide and conquer" and to absorb as much as we can from the best and the brightest.
Bring it on!

"To follow the drops  sliding from a lifting oar,
Head up, while the rower breathes,
and the small boat drifts quietly shoreward..."
  ~~Theodore Roethke
An evening with family,
and the sweetest sound was the laughter of these cousins
as they rowed on the pond while the sun went down.

"In June, as many as a dozen species may burst their buds on a single day.
No man can heed all of these anniversaries; no man can ignore all of them."
  ~~Aldo Leopold
Overnight rains turned everything emerald green with flowers exploding all over the country side.
If you do nothing else, go outside for a walk or a drive.
Don't miss June's shows!

“I don’t have feathers, but I feel like a bird sometimes.”
  ~~Yves Rossy
Remember this?
It was once my best friend.
The day it arrived at my classroom door my life changed.
I could turn around and face my students.
It had my back.
At its height of interactivity, I handed them the "Vis-A-Vis".

Rest in peace, my friend...

The wildflowers I planted at the cabin last year reseeded and have spread into part of the prairie plots.
They make a beautiful backdrop to the pond and summer evenings...

Barn 3

The three University of Illinois round barns played a special role in the promotion and popularity of the American round barn. They are located in the U.S. city of Urbana, Illinois on the campus of the University
of Illinois (U of I). The University of Illinois was home to one of the Agricultural Experiment Stations, located at U.S. universities, which were at the heart of the promotion of the round barn. At least one round barn in
Illinois was built specifically after its owner viewed the barns at the university. Though originally an experiment the three barns helped to lead the way for round barn construction throughout the Midwest, particularly in Illinois. The barns were listed as contributing properties to the U of I Experimental Dairy Farm Historic District, which was listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 1994.

Dairy Experiment Barn

The most expensive of the three barns, the 1912 Dairy Experiment Barn (Barn #3 on the map), is also the largest, at 70 feet (21 m) in diameter. Located on a hillside, it is the furthest barn from the Manager's House. The hillside around the building's north side was entirely excavated, thus it has its basement entirely exposed on that elevation. The south and west portions of the barn rest within the hillside giving the building a banked quality. This final round barn at U of I was built with a "wing" which allowed more cattle to be stored in the building.

We traveled to the Champaign/Urbana area today.
While driving, we passed the round barns on the University of Illinois campus.
It was a perfect morning to stop and take a picture...
