"They say that shadows of deceased ghosts
Do haunt the houses and the graves about,
Of such whose life's lamp went untimely out,
Delighting still in their forsaken hosts.
"

Sondra decorates for every holiday.
I would have loved to have had her as a parent volunteer in my classroom...

Autumn Fires

"The hazy, cloudless skies of Indian Summer.
Leaves scurrying down the street before the wind.
The cold shiver from an arctic blast.
Indian Summer.
The last warmth of the sun.
Chilly mornings and glorious warm afternoons.
The Harvest Moon.
The Hunter's Moon.
The Rainy Season.
Dry corn stalks clattering in the wind.
The touch of frost on grass and window pane.
The smell of burning leaves."
  ~~Keith C. Heidorn

We may be the last town where you find leaves burning in the fall...

"I am struck by the simplicity of light in the atmosphere in the autumn,
as if the earth absorbed none, and out of this profusion of dazzling light came the autumnal tints."

10-Tine Pitchfork

Beware:
I ride horses.
I have the strength to haul hay.
I have the guts to yell at a half-ton animal after being stepped on.
You will not be a problem.
~~Unknown
The 10 tines of this heavy-duty fork make all the difference in stable cleaning. Other pitch forks have too much space between the tines to be effective and the plastic 'stable forks' don't have the strength to deal with muddy messes.

But it's not just useful around the barn--there is nothing better for digging and laying mulch and if you are trying to remove old, packed leaf litter, you know that a normal leaf rake doesn't cut it. This fork gets under the layers and lifts it out with ease. It does a great job adding peat and other such products to garden soil also.

I'm on my second one after 20 years of hard work and expect 20 years out of this one. Highly recommended for many jobs around the yard and farm.

When you own horses, you can't do without it.
And the old ones are the best...

"A dog teaches a boy fidelity, perseverance, and to turn around three times before lying down."
-- Robert Benchley
We spent the afternoon with my new friend, Brycen.
Is there anything better on a fall day than rolling in the leaves with your two best friends?

"O hushed October morning mild,
Begin the hours of this day slow,
Make the day seem to us less brief...
Retard the sun with gentle mist;
Enchant the land with amethyst..."
   ~~Robert Frost
I woke up in Germantown Hills where Mark and Julie live.
This beautiful scene was what greeted me as I entered the kitchen and looked out over the deck.
The autumn colors were soft and lush,
and it only took a few steps out the back door to keep and share...

Caleb's senior night was a win for Metamora High School and moving on to the playoffs.

But more than that, it was a win for us to have the chance to watch Caleb stand with Mark and Julie to recognize them in his last home game on Senior Night.

We love you...

Thank you, Joel, for "driving Miss Daisy". ;)
I loved the afternoon and learning about the gas tank trick.
I love you.

"It was one of those perfect English autumnal days which occur more frequently in memory than in life.
The rich colours of grass and earth were intensified by the mellow light of a sun almost warm enough for spring..."
