“Nature is the art of God.”

Our little aspen tree is feeling fall.
We have our very own piece of Colorado in the Riddle Arboretum...

“Every child is an artist,
the problem is staying an artist when you grow up”
  ~~Pablo Picasso
I took a walk down Western Avenue over lunch.
This little bench and a bucket of chalk was left on the sidewalk along the way.
Many of the students pass this bench as they walk to school,
and today was a beautiful fall day to walk.
"Angel" had left her bright sun with her signature.

Thank you to whoever lives in this house for the bench and the chalk.
In the words of Albert Einstein, "Creativity is contagious, pass it on”

"I have a fear of things growing on things.
I don't know where it came from.
But I go hiking a lot, and sometimes I can't handle moss growing on trees or tumors on trees or mushrooms."

Emma finishing for Tuscola.
I've missed the cross-country meets,
but today I was able to travel to Tuscola to help Shannon with the first annual XC meet of the newly formed Central Illinois Conference.
Both of Tuscola's top finishers did a great job with Eric Ponder winning the men's race,
and Emma Henderson finishing in the top ten and first for the Tuscola girls.
Decatur's St. Teresa earned first place as a team for the women,
while Shelbyville took the honors for the men.

A beautiful day and a beautiful sport...

"Corn wind in the fall, come off the black lands,
come off the whisper of the silk hangers,
the lap of the flat spear leaves."
  ~~Carl Sandburg

The corn is heavy on the stalks absorbing this October rain.
We're all waiting for harvest to begin again...

“A person without a sense of humor is like a wagon without springs.
It's jolted by every pebble on the road.”

Left on the side of the road.
I always wonder about the history and what sort of dreams were carried within its wooden walls...

October Shower

"October's the month
When the smallest breeze
Gives us a shower
Of autumn leaves.
Bonfires and pumpkins,
Leaves sailing down -
October is red
And golden and brown."

The trees are just starting their show.
It rained most of the day with gray skies.
I finally had to get outside for a drive and some color.
I wasn't disappointed...

"The season for enjoying the fullness of life -- partaking of the harvest,
sharing the harvest with others,
and reinvesting and saving portions of the harvest for yet another season of growth."

The tomatoes are taking longer to ripen.
My days are numbered.
It will be a long winter of store tomatoes on sandwiches and salads.
That must be the reason we turn to soup and chili...
