"There is nothing like a dream to create the future."
  ~~Victor Hugo
"Ty" just watched his sister walk across the stage to accept her diploma.
With all of the cameras flashing and the smiles, handshakes, congratulations, and hugs,
I think he was trying to figure out what the "big deal" was all about...

Courage ~ Honor ~ Leadership ~ Patriotism ~ Scholarship ~ Service
One of the benefits of my life as a retired teacher is that I get to finally attend school activities of my grandchildren. We were at Moulton Middle School Honors Assembly early to get the best seats in the house and to watch as Joel was awarded, along with Faith Wheeler, the Citizenship Award.

To top it off, 6th grader Jake received a certificate for Straight A's!
Good job, boys!
Your grandmother could not be more proud of you!

"The Olympic Games must not be an  end in itself,
they must be a means of creating a vast programme
of physical  education and sports competitions for all young people."
  ~~Avery  Brundage
Before school, we walked around Riddle as we waited for the day to begin.
On a beautiful day, I imagined that our kiddos would be excited to know that they had P.E. outside,
and soccer was the lesson for the day...

George F Furr
1894 - 1919
Co. 1, 58th U.S. Inf. 4th Div.
"Pershing's Own"

Memorial Day brings lots of visitors to the cemetery in Shelbyville to decorate the graves.
George Furr is buried in Glenwood Cemetery,
and his statue stands guarding his final resting place.
I don't know whether he died in battle,
but at the age of 25 as one of "General Pershing's Own",
I suspect he saw more than any young man should.

Thank you for your service, George,
and rest in peace...

Game Ball

Playing for the Chaos, Ashton Smith was awarded the "Game Ball" after pitching a "Perfect Game".
"What's a perfect game?" you might ask.
It is a game that is absolutely perfect, without a run, without a hit, and without letting an
opponent reach first base by hook or crook, on a hit, a walk, or an error.

What is far more perfect that her game, though,
is the smile on her face.

Way to go, Ashton Smith!

Picture
An absolutely perfect evening in Riddle Arboretum hosting librarians and families!
A storybook, scavenger hunt, trail-mix, and free books.
Can it get any better?
Well, of course it can!
When you learn how to make a whistle out of an acorn cap!
(We are convinced her red hair helped!)
