"People ask me what I do in winter  when there's no baseball.
I'll tell you what I do.
I stare out the window and  wait for spring."

The wind was manageable,
and so on this spring day,
It was time to set the prairie on fire...

"When a child comes in,
I believe  that it's a 'multipersonhood,' and it knows it,
its consciousness knows it,
and  it has a nuclei in the center of its consciousness that is the repository of all  experience and all knowledge. And when you look in the eyes of your baby and you feel this sense that they are an old soul,
I believe indeed they  are."

The Old Pump

“The faithful person is like a pump which brings up water by the bucketful
when it has been primed with a cup or two.
The useless wandering of the imagination is discontinued and the life becomes raised in all.
Those  who have been helped are aware that such a person has ministered life to them without words.”
~~From Barclay's Apology in Modern English
Hidden in the underbrush,
I wish I knew its story...

“Like winds and sunsets,
wild things were taken for granted until progress began to do away with them.
Now we face the question whether a still higher 'standard of living' is worth its cost in things
natural, wild and free.”
  ~~Aldo Leopold
I think the trees are looking just slightly less bare...

Open Lock

"Fear can be good when you're  walking past an alley at night,
or when you need to check the locks on your doors  before you go to bed,
but it's not good when you have a goal and you're fearful  of obstacles.
We often get trapped by our fears,
but anyone who has had success  has failed before."

Guns Vs. Hoses

"In necessary things, unity;
in  doubtful things, liberty;
in all things, charity."
  ~~Anne  Baxter
It was the third annual battle between the Shelbyville Police Department and the Shelbyville Fire Department. Each year they have chosen to raise money and awareness for a different charity.
This year all donations went to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation,
and about $4,500 was raised.

Shelby County has more than its fair share of citizens who are battling, or have battled CF,
and during the half-time they were brought to center court to be honored, or family members were recognized in memory of those who have lost their fight to CF.

"The Guns"
2014 Winners

My grandson, Joel, has CF, and my son, Joel's dad, is a police officer who played for the "Guns".
Chad played sports while he attended Shelbyville High School,
but I didn't have a fancy camera at the time.
It was fun watching him play again,
and to capture it for my "daily shot".
Chad, you "still got it".  ;)

Sugaring Season

"Sugaring season is the season when  you tap the trees for sugar that turns into maple syrup.
I've married someone  from Vermont,
so it's an expression I kept hearing,
and I'm like, 'What is that?  That's just so beautiful.'
I like the idea.
It's the very, very first murmurings  of spring."
  ~~Beth  Orton

After working in the garden all morning,
I had a short subbing job this afternoon.
After the students left for the weekend,
I treated myself to a walk through Douglas-Hart Nature Center.
The wind was blowing, and things were still very brown waiting for spring.
It wasn't until I was near the end of my walk when I found the perfect picture for today...
