Let Me In!

Our "Midge" is more like a dog than a cat.
She goes to the back door at least three times a day to let me know she wants out.

Now.

Then she talks to me through the window to let me know she has had enough "Backyard-Time".

This afternoon with cold winds and dropping temperatures,
it didn't take her long to say, "Let me in!"

The day was bright with children's laughter, conversation, and sweetness.
After the room emptied as they left to return home,
the gray skies and rain seemed far more noticeable.

If you have a garden and a library,
you have everything you need.

Rainy and dreary.
And so I walked to our library to renew and stock up.

I only wish that there had been a warm fire in the fireplace.
Even so, it was a perfect spot to while away the hour...

With a red weather app
and that forecast,
it is time to break out the 1,000-piece puzzle.

The four corners have been secured and the perimeter and middle pieces have been separated.

Any help is welcome!

High School Wrestling

The 1st period is won by the best technician.
The 2nd period is won by the kid in the best shape.
The 3rd period is won by the kid with the biggest heart.
Today we watched our grandson, Garrett, wrestle as a freshman in the Shelbyville Tournament.

I would say he has all three.

Blowin' in the Wind

With the sun making a late appearance,
it felt like an afternoon drive down county roads.
I found this old windmill tucked away on an overgrown pasture.

We call them windmills,
but according to Wikipedia,

they are actually "windpumps".
"...at their peak in 1930, an estimated 600,000 units were in use."
Even though the blades and the wind vane
were full of holes left over from someone's "target practice",
they moved and turned slowly and gracefully in direct relation to the wind.

This piece of "Americana" had been built to last.

With the low temperatures and Illinois in the firm grips of winter,
this red-tailed hawk seemed a little more willing to sit and pose this cold afternoon...

An afternoon trip to Springfield and the "Recycled Records" shop with Joel and Chad brought a great day to an end.

Joel picked up two "remastered" albums by the Beatles, "Abbey Road" and "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band".

I learned that my original "Meet the Beatles" album might be worth some money, too.

It will be Joel's some day,
but until then,

I'll just listen to the Fab Four and remember back to simpler times...

Ahead of me,
nothing but gray skies.

In the rear-view mirror,
nothing but gray skies.

But all the way home,
through a little break in the clouds,
the sun shone bright.

It felt like my own personal sunbeam.

This is a place for daily images that represent memories.

I will try to "focus" on the best each day.
