"For last year's words belong to last year's language,
and next year's words await another voice.
And to make an end is to make a beginning."
~~ T.S. Eliot

 PDX PreChecked

See the little green checkmark?
Ahem...
No long lines.
Keep your coat on.
And your boots.
And your belt.
And keep your computer in your laptop bag.
Just put your bags on the conveyor belt and walk on through.

Age and an unusual name finally have their benefits.

And this carpet?
It will soon be replaced,
and there are people who will miss it terribly.
My sister is the port commissioner of the Portland Airport,
and when it was decided that the carpet was in bad need of replacement,
it was discovered that this carpet has somewhat of a "cult following".
There are t-shirts with this pattern,
and socks,
and a Facebook Page.

So, next time you travel through the PDX,
stop and take a picture of yourself standing on the carpet,
and post it on
www.facebook.com/pages/The-Carpet-at-Portland-Airport.

"One  swallow does not make a summer,
but one skein of geese,
cleaving the murk of  March thaw,
is the Spring."
~~Aldo Leopold
With one leg tucked up inside the warmth of a layer of down,
this Canadian goose did its best to stay warm again the cold, damp breeze that blew off the small lake.

After all of the holiday baking and cooking,
a walk was what I needed.
The sooner, the better!

I have been wanting to walk on the trail around Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon for a couple of years, and on this visit, it was just a few miles from our hotel. The trail was bark chips that ran through woodlands and wetlands, and waterfowl was abundant. They were use to people running and walking nearby, so I was happy that this guy stood still long enough for me to take his picture.

"The Magic is in the Hole"...
I passed up the "maple-bacon" doughnuts, but the "peach-fritter" was all mine...

"For centuries men have kept an appointment with Christmas.
Christmas means fellowship,
feasting,
giving and receiving,
a time of good cheer,
home."
~~W.J. Ronald Tucker
Fifteen people around the table.
Ashton and Joel worked hard to make it festive,
and the conversation,
the food (thank you to Mike and Matt)
and good wine made it more than memorable...

By the Chimney With Care...

Picture
"Twas the night before Christmas,
when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring,
not even a mouse.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St Nicholas
soon would be there."
~~Clement Clarke Moore
These are a few of the stockings I have knitted for my children, their husbands and wives, my nieces and nephews, their wives and husbands, and my grandchildren.
Even the children of a few close friends received my knitted Christmas gifts.
I have made so many that I have lost count.
I've been told I could make money knitting and selling these,
but my fingers are getting old,
and another generation wants some.
It might be time to retire the knitter,
but not the pattern.
Lessons will be offered free...

Christmas Reflections

"Christmas...
that magic blanket that wraps itself about us,
that something so intangible that it is like a fragrance.
It may weave a spell of nostalgia.
Christmas may be a day of feasting,
or of prayer,
but always it will be a day of remembrance...
a day in which we think of everything we have ever loved."
~~Augusta E Rundell
