Evening Dove

The doves have claimed the Robin's nest and have been sitting on it for over a month.
Mrs. Robin had built and maintained her home the two previous springs,
but the early bird got the worm, or rather the nest, this year.
In spite of the fact that I was able to get very close with my camera,
she did not flinch.
I haven't been able to catch the nest when it is open,
but I hope to see her eggs or nestlings soon.

The Nest

Ron Ghere and I worked in the Arboretum today planting seedlings.
We realized that spring really was here when we found this Robin's nest and her three eggs.
The sun was warm enough for Mama to leave them for awhile,
and it was a perfect time to peek inside.

Our students had the responsibility of monitoring the nests and gathering data when we were still in the classroom.

I don't know who enjoyed it the most.
Our students or us...

Raining.
Even so, I stopped on the side of the road to photograph a flock of sheep.
Among all of them, this one was the most curious.

It's raining.
Again.
But that is not going to stop Mother Nature.
My gardens are beginning to show off their colors.
Even so, they are wet and cold,
and I'm looking forward to the sun when this little apple tree shows off her first

Flesor's Candy Kitchen

One of the perks about "sleep-overs" in Tuscola is a chance to have lunch
(or "anything")
at Flesor's Candy Kitchen with "my girls".
Shannon, Ashton, and I treated ourselves to lunch while I did a 3-day sub job at East Prairie in Tuscola.
I highly recommend their ice cream,
and caramel apples in the fall is another one of our favorites.

Ashton opted for a chocolate milkshake.
Her chocolate addiction is definitely genetic!

Check out Flesor's website to learn more about this unique family business.

While waiting for Shannon to pick up the packet for the Illinois Marathon in Champaign,
the news crew from ABC Channel 15 WCID was doing a live remote broadcast.
We could only guess that it involved the running of the marathon this weekend as hundreds of participants began the process of standing in long lines to pick up their race packets.

The softball game was cancelled this afternoon.

Ashton was able to take her time writing her final draft about kids and cell phones (in INK!),
answering questions about the feudal system,
(and again, HOW did William the Conqueror contribute to the feudal system?)
practicing her piano,
practicing her drums,
and treating herself to the season finale of "Duck Dynasty".

All in a day's work for a 6th grader.

The best thing one can do when it's raining is to let it rain.
~~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Do we have any other choice?
I think not.
The sunny days are so much sweeter as a result...

Washington School

Washington School was built in 1922 on the west side of Pana, Illinois.
This evening after school I drove to photograph both Washington School and Lincoln School.
Lincoln is located on the east side of Pana, and even though they look very similar,
they both seem to have their own personalities.

"Veil after veil of thin dusky gauze is lifted,
and by degrees the forms and colours of things are restored to them,
and we watch the dawn remaking the world in its antique pattern."
~~Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Gray

Walking on the moss under the branches,
you could almost feel spring working to renew herself,
as the birds cheered her on...
