Easter Bellini

A Bellini cocktail is a mixture of Prosecco sparkling wine and peach purée.
Originating in Venice, it is one of Italy's most popular long drinks.

The Bellini was invented sometime between 1934 and 1948  by Giuseppe Cipriani, founder of Harry's Bar in Venice, Italy. Because of its unique pink color, which reminded Cipriani of the color of the toga of a saint in a painting by 15th-century Venetian artist Giovanni Bellini, he named the drink the Bellini.

The drink started as a seasonal specialty at Harry's Bar (Venice), a favorite haunt of Ernest Hemingway, Sinclair Lewis and Orson Welles. Later, it also became popular at the bar's New York counterpart.

After an entrepreneurial Frenchman set up a business to ship fresh white peach pureé to both locations, the Bellini became a year-round favorite.

It's a tradition.
My Italian daughter-in-law fixes this every Easter,
and we think it's a perfect way to celebrate family and the holiday...

And so we all had our first spring ice cream...

One thousand pieces
and a little help from my granddaughters.

We invented descriptions like "a turtle with a head and a tail", "a little man with shoulders", "a 4-leaf clover" and "a little man without shoulders".

I started it on January 27 with this post,
And today...
closure.

I want to go where they went."

Today our fourth and fifth graders met Borage and Karen Land,
both Iditarod veterans.
After Karen's presentation,
more than 250 students had the chance to touch a most amazing athlete.

Snow Shells

One cannot collect all the beautiful shells on the beach;
one can collect only a few,
and they are more beautiful if they are few.
 ~~ Anne Morrow Lindbergh
The snow is still banked along the country roads like sand dunes.
It is hard to believe that just days ago I collected these shells walking along a beach in Florida.
This picture of my small shell collection was taken after placing them in drifted snow.

Spring Barn

The sun came out,
and the snow began to melt.
The sky was an amazing blue as its color seemed to reflect back from the snow.

I passed this barn on a county road traveling to Findlay.
It won't be long before the farmer needs to put down boards
to make a path over the thawing ground.

The snow on the trees are both beautiful and terrible.
The weight of it bends and breaks the branches and tree tops.
The pines have been bred to endure as their boughs bend to the ground making hiding places that are quiet and peaceful...

Chautauqua Picnic

Our Chautauqua Building has been the focus of much attention lately when our city council voted to have it demolished. The citizens of Shelbyville rose up and began a campaign that has raised thousands of dollars to restore and repair it. The city council has reversed its decision, and in the "eleventh hour", was saved to see a new life.

I had to post twice today. Some mmemories are worth saving.

I ventured out in the early hours of the Snowpocalypse.
While the roads were still passable with 4-wheel drive,
the girls and I drove down to the lake beach area.
The combination of flying snow and fog saw no view of the lake,
but plenty of ghost trees...

Music is everybody's possession.
It's only publishers who think that people own it.
~~John Lennon
Today Taylor, Joel, and I traveled to see Ashton perform her drum solo, her piano solo, and to sing her part in a 4-part ensemble piece for the district music recital.

Even though she admitted to being nervous,
she did a marvelous job, and we could not have been more proud of her performance.
