"The hazy, cloudless skies of Indian Summer. Another memory of childhood is revisited every fall in our little town.
~Nancy ~ 313/365 Coach Paulson pinning on Eric's number before the race. "Any active sportsman has to be very focused; As a sophomore, Tuscola's Eric Ponder placed 55th in the 2012 Illinois IHSA Cross Country State Championships. Eric returned with something to prove, and prove he did. This year he dug deep to earn his 5th place finish. He led the pack through much of the race, but racing against runners he had never met, and competing against the same spirit within the top four boys, he finished fifth with nothing left, having given his "All". We are proud of the year you have had, Eric, and have enjoyed watching you and your teammates train and run. Tomorrow begins a new year to train for the dreams that you have ahead of you... ~Nancy ~ 312/365 As a final note,
I need to give credit to the coaches, Kristi Paulson and Shannon Smith. Their smiles in the pictures say it all. As with most coaches, their work and dedication did not just start at the beginning of the season, nor does it end with this race. And Shannon. Yes, she is my daughter. She ran cross-country, has continued to run, and as a volunteer coach, has run right next to these kids leading by example. I love you, Girl... “Never waste any amount of time doing anything important I was happy I chose Route 45 instead of the interstate for my trip north to Tuscola.
If you live in Illinois, you know that you don't have to go far to find a side road heading straight west. (Thank you, Northwest Ordinance of 1787.) It was a simple matter to stop and enjoy this beautiful sunset. ~ Nancy ~ 311/365 It was raining, and we could feel the temperature dropping. It didn't matter. We knew that our "autumn-colored" days were numbered,
and there were pictures waiting to be ours. ~Nancy ~ 309/365 Thanks, Ron, for standing in the rain with me today! It was fun photographing and learning as we worked together. Looking forward to your pictures on "When I'm Sixty-Four"... With clouds and gray skies,
it seemed a perfect day to be inside with workshops. This was the first thing we saw when we stepped outside to be reminded that autumn was still working her magic... ~Nancy ~ 308/365 The autumn colors are waning,
and I made sure I found time today to walk where there are plenty of trees. You could still hear the last crickets of summer, and a few birds accompanying the wind... ~Nancy ~ 307/365 “Every man looks upon his wood pile with a sort of affection.” When I was a little girl,
we would hike in the mountains in Germany. As we walked, we would see the fire wood split and stacked very, very neatly, often between two trees. I love the look of this wood and the textures, but it would have never passed my grandfather's approval... ~Nancy ~ 306/365 |
